If you haven’t heard of Tobacco Wood Brewing Company in Durham, North Carolina, I’m not sure where you’ve been hiding. Their beer selection is always a savory mix of their own brews and other local beers and ciders making it an establishment for everyone.
Tobacco Wood History
From their own website, you’ll be delighted to find out that Tobacco Wood is the first female, veteran owned brewery in North Carolina. They started in Oxford, NC and opened a second location in Durham.
What Did We Enjoy
We visited this last Tuesday (5/9/23) and were not disappointed. I started my evening with a pint of bacon (the food; that’s not a clever beer name) and a 565 Amber Ale. That was a delicious pairing. If you haven’t had their bacon, it goes with everything!
After the 565, I had a Ranger Candy Pilsner and a Wiedersehen Amber. Both were also delicious. This visit, I stuck entirely to their own menu, but half of Tobacco Wood’s beer menu includes beers and ciders from other local breweries as well.
Nick started his journey with a Rocket Surgery and the fish and chips. There were no complaints out of him on the beer or the food. After that, he moved on to the Pull the Pin, Pineapple Pale Ale. Only high marks were earned throughout the evening!
Activities
While we were there, there was a group sewing and knitting at a nearby table. They also regularly host live music and weekly trivia as part of their evening entertainment lineup.
All in all, we had a wonderful time and will be returning soon! We highly recommend this brewery to all our readers.
